7 Easy Ways To Update Your Style

Whether you are running a small business, heading out with girls, or going on a hot date  you are sending a message about yourself.  The first time you meet someone they have formed an opinion about you in a matter of seven seconds based on your appearance alone.  With a few simple steps you can send a positive message and make a great first impression.  If you want to be more memorable you have to step up your game.  Your don’t have to look like you stepped out of Vogue Magazine but investing in your look shows that you care about who you are and how you look.  Here is  a list of 7  easy ways to update your style:

  1.  Clean out your closet

People tend to hold onto clothes until the closet is overflowing.  Ask yourself: Does this piece represent who you are? Make three piles: one for items that fit well and look great on,  one for items that  no longer work or are appropriate for your image and one for items that need altered.  Clearing out clutter helps you determine what you still need.  Decide what is working for you and what is not.  Shop for pieces like jackets, pants, skirts and tops to add to your now revised closet.  These pieces will give you a variety of looks for different occasions.

  1.  Wear undergarments that enhance your body shape

Wearing the right underwear or body shaper for your body type is essential. For the best results choose well fitting undergarments that will enhance your body shape and figure.  Be sure to choose features and benefits over color and brand.  Choose the right size and look for quality fabric.  If you need a little help determining your bra size head on over to places like Nordstrom or Victoria Secret for a bra fitting.  Don’t forget that what you wear underneath your  clothes also makes a big difference to the way you feel!

  1.  Build around classic wardrobe pieces

Classic wardrobe pieces seem to never go out of fashion no matter what the current trends are. These classic basics are versatile and can be mixed, matched and layered to create a variety of looks. These essentials never seem to go out of style (Black turtleneck, little black dress, a jacket the defines your waist, white T-shirt, white button down shirt, pencil skirt, cardigan, trench coat, pea coat, solid colored stretch shirt, tank top, black slacks, black pumps, khakis, riding boots, pearl necklace, pearl or diamond stud earrings and a pair of jeans). Your wardrobe should consist of both the old and new classics.

  1.  Accessorize

The art of accessorizing is the secret to looking great in even the most basic clothes. Update your look with  variety of accessory styles that will bring color and character to the  outfit. Don’t be afraid to:  mix textures and prints, add bold colors, add a belt, rock a shiny clutch, wear junky jewelry, accessorize your hair or slip into a pair of sassy heels. Buy pieces that express your personality and remember not to overdo it.  Stick with one statement piece at a time.

5. Add a few trendy pieces

Buy a few trendy pieces to your wardrobe but try not to spend too much money since they only last a little while, then go out of style. To avoid looking like everyone else mix your trendy pieces with classic pieces. Try to stick to one to two trends in an outfit. Too many trends in one outfit will be way too busy.  Add pops of color to update outfits for the season without overdoing it.

6. Makeup and skincare

Bold lips are a classic way to add both impact and femininity to your look.  Your nails may seem like minor details, but they say a lot about you. Your skin is another important part of your body so treat it kindly with care, exfoliate and your skin will glow for you. Apply a face mask at least once a week.  Bold brows, minimal makeup and experimenting with color always works.

  1.  Try a new hair style

Give your hair a makeover, you don’t have to do any drastic changes, simple highlights or hair blow out makes an amazing difference. Just try moving the part from on side of the head to the other, this simple change can make it look as if you have a whole new hairstyle.  Try parting your hair on an angle, or creating a zigzag part for a funky look.  Consider going for bangs they create a dramatic difference.  This is quick and inexpensive!

10 Creative Way To Maximize Your Small Closet Space

If you have reached the point where the hangers in your closet have no room to move from left to right then it is time to take action!  There are a ton of ways you can make your closet seem sleek and organized no matter what size your closet is.  You can maximize your closet space on the cheap, be creative and upcycle all while still being chic.  Here are 10 creative ways to maximize your small closet space without it costing you a fortune:

1. First things First! It’s time to purge!

Why take up valuable real estate in your closet? Reduce the clutter in your closet by getting rid of the clothes that don’t fit, obviously worn to death or out of style.  ” I’ve had this since high school ” is not a good reason to keep it. If you have not worn it in a year, it’s okay to let it go!  The items that are still in good condition can be donated.

2. The inner closet door is a prime spot

Maximize your closet real estate by using a door rack to hang your scarves, belts, tights or shoes. Think of the closet door as a wall too!

3. Double duty your handbags

Save on space by storing smaller handbags inside of larger ones. Tip: handbags should be stored upright to keep their shape.

4. Re-use an old suitcase

It’s taking up space anyway. Use an old suitcase to store out of season pieces.  Suitcases can be stored under the bed, hung on hooks or rolled away when not needed.  If it is a vintage suitcase it can make a great décorative piece.

5. Recycle your soda can tab

Use soda a simple soda can tab to make double hangers, with this simple piece you can hang multiple items in one spot

6. Double up

Add double rods for short items.  A double hanging rod literally doubles your closet space , that way you can group your short hanging pieces together. This will give you more floor space as well.

7. Get matchy matchy

Match hangers so that they are the same type color and scheme.  For example: If you are going to use velvet hangers, then use all velvet hangers. You will be surprised how much space you will create and how less wrinkled your clothes will be.

8. Be smart, use book ends

Use book ends to keep your folded clothing in place and to keep your shelves neat. There is nothing worst than grabbing a folded sweater and they all fall down.

9. Get hooked

Everyone has these, they are holding up your shower curtain.  Use shower curtain hooks to hang your light weight garments like tank tops, tights, scarves or small purses. Believe it or not you can hang your bra’s on the shower curtain hooks to help them maintain their shape.

10. Light it up! First things First! It’s time to purge!

If your closet is not wired for lights get yourself a LED stick for closets. It’s am affordable and easy way to add lighting to your closet without wiring. This way you can find what you are looking for on the shelves and floors. You won’t believe how much space you will discover and how much bigger your closet will seem with a little light.

4 Simple Steps To Slow Down The Signs Of Aging

It doesn’t matter who you are or whether you have a  professional career or stay at home mom the subject of anti-aging at some point in life becomes a topic of discussion for everyone.  Who doesn’t want look their best! When you look great you feel great and in return you exude more confidence.  There are both external and internal factors that can be played to slow down aging skin.  Yes, you can reboot your skin to look great, slow down or fix signs of aging.  Here are 4 simple steps to slow down the signs of aging:

1.  Cleanse, Tone and Moisturize daily.

You should use a cleanser formulated to treat your skin type. Be aware (creamy cleansers are best for dry skin & gel cleansers are best for oily skin).  Use a toner to balance the PH level of your skin and be sure your toner is alcohol free.  Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize! Hydrated skin is more resistant to aging.

2.  Sunblock, Sunblock and Sunblock
Wear sunscreen daily(use a minimum of SPF 15).  The most important thing that you can do for your skin is to protect it against UV rays.   Nothing ages skin faster than sun damage. SPF in your makeup is not enough.

3.  Exfoliate
Sloughing away dead skin cells makes the skin feel silkier and look brighter.  Using a resurfacing process that sloughs dead skin cells will diminish signs of aging, encouraging a smoother younger looking skin, so that the moisturizers and anti-agers you use afterward will be more effective.

4.  Healthier Eating.
Have you  heard it said that you are the food that you eat!  According to Dr. Perricone, you can decrease the signs of aging by eating an anti-inflammatory diet, fresh fruits , vegetables and cold water fish. Be sure to stay away from sugar and starch they raise the blood sugar level which could lead to inflammation in the skin, which could lead to wrinkles.  The rule of thumb is:  More of what is good and less of what is not.
